GROUND FOG AND NEAR AND BELOW FREEZING BELOW SUMMIT EARLY MORNING
MILD OCTOBER CONTINUES
Under a clear sky and with calm winds under high pressure the
temperatures fell rapidly overnight last night with strong
radiational cooling. Our Hingham coop station’s average date
for first freeze is October 13 and we got our first frost
this morning just a day later. Taunton and Norwood Airports
both had frosty 29-degree lows while 1000-ft. high Worcester
Airport and 600-ft. high Blue Hill were well above freezing
with lows of 39 and 42 degrees respectively. Widespread frost
was reported along the MA-NH border this morning where a low
of 29F was recorded at Pepperill, MA.
Our mild and dry October continues with temperatures now
averaging more than 4 degrees warmer than normal and our
total precipitation more than one inch drier than normal.
