Earth Day 2026 · Support the Observatory

141 Years of Watching the Sky. Help Us Never Stop.

April 22, 2026

On this Earth Day, we invite you to invest in the climate record that cannot be replaced — and the community that sustains it. Since 1885, Blue Hill Observatory has maintained an unbroken record of daily atmospheric observations — the longest continuous weather record in the Western Hemisphere. Every temperature reading, every barometric pressure log, every wind measurement is part of a chain that stretches back before the automobile, before the airplane, before the modern era of climate science.

That chain must not break. And right now, it depends on you.

Why Your Gift Matters

This work is not only historic — it is essential.

As our climate changes in increasingly complex ways, the value of consistent, high-quality long-term observations grows ever more critical. Scientists, policymakers, and educators rely on the Blue Hill record to understand what is normal, what is changing, and what it means for the future.

The Observatory’s weather observation program depends on philanthropic support to continue. Maintaining this meticulous, uninterrupted record requires skilled observers, specialized equipment, and ongoing analysis. Without sufficient funding, this irreplaceable climate record — and the insights it provides — are at risk.

Your gift supports:

Skilled observers who maintain the 24/7 record

Specialized instruments and equipment maintenance

STEM education programs for all learners

Preservation of a National Historic Landmark

By making a gift, you are helping to preserve a legacy of scientific excellence while ensuring that future generations have access to the data needed to understand and respond to our changing world.

This Earth Day

Stand with us — even from afar.

Invest in the knowledge that helps protect our planet. Every gift, at every level, helps keep the record unbroken.
