Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center will host four days of special events to celebrate the reopening of our historic landmark building following an extensive two-year renovation required to protect and preserve Greater Boston’s Centennial Observing Station—1 of only 11 in the entire country.

What We Are Celebrating:
- A Newly Renovated Historic Landmark Building—our new building will facilitate in-depth educational tours focused on Observatory’s history along with an opportunity to meet our Weather Observers.
- Our Newly Bound and Scanned Historic Climate Record Books—this significant achievement was accomplished with support from individual donors and a federal grant. The Observatory’s record books date back to 1885—and now data from our record books is accessible to all. Some of the books are displayed at the Observatory.
- A New Exhibit Hall—through touchscreens individuals may now explore new weather and climate content that also highlight’s the Observatory’s exciting contribution to the field of meteorology—this important initiative was possible due to individual donors.
- New Educational Programs and Activities—in partnership with the Yawkey Foundation the Observatory has developed a new three-tiered educational program entitled “Picture Post for Environmental Conservation” that includes a new guided hike focused environmental changes taking place on Blue Hill.
- The Southern New England Weather Conference (SNWC) resumes following COVID 19 for the first time in person. The half-day conference is a collaboration between the National Weather Service and the Observatory. Meteorology and climate science experts present on exciting topics that are relevant to the general public.

- July 13—First View of the “Mish Michaels Exhibit Hall for Scientific Discovery”—to honor a most beloved local and national meteorologist, Mish Michaels who dedicated her time, talent and resources to the Observatory for twenty years. - July 15—Morning (half-day)—The Southern New England Weather Conference is a ticketed conference featuring renowned weather and climate experts discussing exciting weather and climate topics.
